CASE STUDY - THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE
Recently we received word that one of our great clients, Molly, passed away. As if the grief associated with losing a lifelong partner is not enough, the surviving spouse, Bill, wasn’t the one who managed most of the financial details for the couple.
We helped Bill by reviewing all the financial accounts that were in place. Since we had recently reviewed their financial plan, we had an inventory of those accounts, their life insurance policies and the Trust they had in place. Having that all in one place allowed us to provide guidance and to assure him that he would be alright. We also made sure that any investment and retirement accounts were re-titled appropriately so as to not cause any unnecessary tax burden.
As a result of our work together, Bill has one less stress and can focus on mourning his wife, being a good steward of her legacy and eventually, getting on with his life.
While this scenario isn’t real and only for illustrative purposes, we want you to know that we are skilled at handling situations like this. If you want to put a plan in place that puts everything in perspective, we invite you to contact us.
